Speed limits temporarily reduced by 10kph on federal and state roads for CNY festive season

Works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has announced the speed limit on federal and state roads nationwide will be temporarily reduced.

According to a popular English daily news site, The Star, the reduction in speed is in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festive season.

This means the speed limit will be reduced to 80kph on federal roads and 70kph on state roads and will be enforced from Jan 18 to 27.

The works minister added that speed limit signs will be temporarily changed to reflect the reduction.

Nanta said the ministry had decided to impose the speed limit to address accidents that frequently occur at 76 “blackspots”.

“Meanwhile, 40 locations posed a danger due to dark roads, so streetlights were installed at a cost of RM4.7mil,” explained Nanta before adding that a total of 53 blackspots were repaired and improved at a cost of RM17.2mil in 2022.
